Media Lab announces winner of the Water Open Eye Award – Lebanon
Lebanese journalist Ali Awadah has won the Blue Peace Media Lab’s ‘Water Open Eye Award – Lebanon’ for his
article
on the mismanagement and pollution of the Litani River.
On 13 March 2020, jurors from the
Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC)
, BORDA,
Media in Cooperation and Transition (MiCT)
and
cewas
selected Awadah’s piece from a shortlist of four articles.
The other shortlisted articles looked at
wastewater reuse in Lebanon
,
water quality in the Litani River
and
the impact of climate change on water availability in Lebanon.
Awadah received $500 in prize money as part of the award. The planned award ceremony was, however, postponed until further notice due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Blue Peace Media Lab is part of the Blue Peace Middle East Initiative. It aims to promote constructive coverage of water issues in the Middle East through journalism trainings and closer cooperation between journalists and water experts. The Media Lab is funded by the SDC and implemented by MiCT, cewas and the Media Academy Iraq.
