The Blue Peace Middle East community in Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, and Türkiye is observing the ongoing violence inflicted on civilians in the region with great sadness and distress. Intentionally depriving civilians of universal basic services, especially medical aid, water and electricity, is abhorrent.
This is made worse through the specific targeting of water infrastructure, such as water treatment plants and water storage towers. The far-reaching effect on the civilian population will continue to resonate for generations to come and will only lead to more violence.
We remain committed to our vision of using the power of water to build a peaceful future for the region and therefore call for an end to the use of water as a tool for war. We believe that this conflict can only be ended by adherence to international law based on justice and respect for human rights.
